Call for Candidates to serve on the Condemnation Commission

The Town of Greenwich Representative Town Meeting (RTM) is seeking candidates for nomination to serve on the Town’s Condemnation Commission.

The Condemnation Commission exercises the powers and performs the duties with respect to the condemnation of land and the assessment of damages and benefits arising only from the construction of highways, sewers and public parking. As officers of the Town, members have a responsibility to understand and abide by both the Town’s Code of Ethics and the State of Connecticut Freedom of Information Act. Service is without compensation.

Eligibility Requirements
The eligibility requirements for serving are simple. Candidates must be: 1.) a resident of the Town of Greenwich, and 2.) a registered voter in the Town of Greenwich.

Qualifications and Experience
Successful nominees will demonstrate the ability to: work and communicate with the public, attend to issues of both detail and large scope, and serve in the public interest. We are seeking five members who will compose a board with a balanced set of skills and professional experience which includes, but is not limited to: real estate evaluation, construction, engineering, legal expertise, town planning, and public representation. The Condemnation Committee is currently in need of candidates with engineering and/or construction backgrounds.

Term of Appointment
A standard term is 4 years.
1 nomination will be made for a term ending 3/31/2023.

***The deadline for serving notice of interest is: Friday April 17 at 12 noon.

Candidates will interview with the RTM Appointments Committee at a public meeting on Tuesday May 7 at 8pm in the TOWN HALL MEETING ROOM on the first floor in Greenwich Town Hall. Nomination is by majority vote of the RTM Appointments Committee.

Successful candidates will be advised immediately of their nomination. Additional interviews will be scheduled with the RTM Land Use and Public Works standing committees which will make recommendations to the RTM. The appointment will be made official only by majority vote of the RTM at a legally noticed public meeting.
